Pamela

Pamela Carey lives and creates her silver jewellery and other craft items at her gallery in Apollo Bay.

Pamela makes her silver leaf pendants and earrings using fresh green leaves from her garden (and from other people's!). The leaves are coated with silver and fired in the kiln. She also creates filigree silver pendants, whereby silver is piped onto cork shapes (oval, round, spherical, tubular, etc) from a syringe. During the kiln firing process, the cork burns away, leaving the delicate hollow filigree piece. Pamela also fuses Dichroic glass to create beautiful, brightly coloured pendants, which she then decorates with silver.

Pamela's was "made in Africa" and this vibrant, colourful country inspires the creation of beautiful painted and beaded wall hangings, table runners and cushion covers. Pamela also paints African scenes (mainly animals) on historic pieces of slate, and makes African-themed linocut greeting cards for you to personalise. And one of Pamela's most popular items is her hand-made, heat-resistant place mats, using fabric imported from both Kenya and Zimbabwe.

You can find Pamela at her brightly-coloured stall at the Apollo Bay Community Market on the foreshore on Saturday mornings - weather permitting - or visit her in her studio, any time by appointment.

Pamela lives with her cat, her dog and - sometimes - her husband (who still works in Melbourne during the week). Pamela is a wildlife rescuer/carer ... hence the photo of her with the koalas.
